Waban Artful Piano Summit 2017

Waban Library Centre 1608 Beacon Street, Waban, 02468
It is said "April showers bring May flowers" but this May, Saturday afternoons in Newton's historic village of Waban are also going to be filled with great music from some of the finest virtuosos of our time. From Cuban phenomena Dayramir Gonzalez to Downbeat poll winner vocalist Dominique Eade, this unique piano summit is a new tradition aimed at presenting world class artists in a intimate setting - entirely free to the public. Link to some of last years performances.
In conjunction with the Artful Piano Project where 9 decorated pianos grace Newton Villages during the month of May, The Waban Improvement Society (WIS) will present concerts for 3 Saturday afternoons at the Waban Library Center. The WIS is a non profit community building organization established in 1889.
May 6th at 1pmTim Ray and Dayramir Gonzalez
Perhaps best known as long-time pianist for Lyle Lovett, Tim Ray’s wide-ranging skills as a soloist and accompanist have afforded him the opportunity to perform with legendary performers from Aretha Franklin, and Bonnie Raitt, to Phil Woods, and the Boston Pops.
Dayramir Gonzalez' international rise is being documented in a feature film currently in production. Returning to Berklee College from his home in NYC to shoot some interviews, he accepted the WIS invitation to play in Newton before jetting to Cuba to host a music festival. Look for a special surprise guest to perform with him.
On May 13th at 1pm, Alan Rowe and Dominique Eade.
Jazz master Alan Rowe returns again this year to perform his energetic, hard-swinging compositions, sensitive ballads, and soulful improvisations.
A special treat at 2pm, vocalist Dominique Eade. Music critic David Hajdu wrote in the New York Times Magazine, "I already knew who the Next Thing in jazz singing would be: Dominique Eade. An impossibly versatile vocalist, composer, lyricist and instrumental arranger..."
On May 20th at 1pm,  Alexei Tsiganov and Nina Ott & Chris Lopes Trio
Russian born Alexei Tsiganov will perform at 1pm. His jaw-dropping artistry and innovation embrace a multitude of styles including Classical, Latin, Modal, BeBop, and more.
Nina Ott was on the faculty at Berklee for 6 years before moving to San Francisco. After years of performing in the vibrant Latin Jazz scene there, she returned east. Nina and her bassist husband Chris bring their magical trio back to Waban. This group's interactions are breathtaking and their rhythmic creativity is hypnotic.
In case of rain, the performances will move inside.
